Stargrave - Dante's Revenge: Pam & Archeoflex

The next 2 members of the Dante's Revenge crew by Bob Naismith are now completed. Here we have Pam & Archeoflex

These 3d printed figures are the last 2 of the members provided in the set. I used an old Eldar emblem decal for Archeoflex's cloak

I've chosen 2 more from another of Bob's sets of figures to complete the crew of 10, & they are currently on the paint table.

Stargrave - Dante's Revenge: Jared & Djineer

Today I have 2 more members of the Dante's Revenge crew completed. Here we have Djineer & Jared (by Bob Naismith)

It's likely Djineer will be a fixer or hacker of some type once the crew roster is built, while Jared seems like a fixer of another type. Obviously ex military with a bit of a backstory.

As well I was chatting with one of my friends & we were discussing the Data & Objective markers for Stargrave. A quick visit to Thingeverse yielded up some files by Obsidian Prime

After looking through the files I chose some to represent both a Data & a Objective token. I then reduced their scales as I didn't want to have a HUGE laptop marker on the table. We generally have markers kept beside those carrying them, so it will be more visual at the smaller scales.

Here Jared poses with some of the markers. I liked the cannister & opted to print them out in 2 sizes for now. I will likely do a post on them once I get them painted up, but just wanted to show them & give Obsidian Prime some activity on his files!

The British Invasion hits the Doorstep

Today has been a busy parcel day, with both postal & UPS arrivals. It seems the orders I made to Crooked Dice & Northstar made an agreement to make this a great Friday!

First up was the recent release of 7TV Fantasy, a new skirmish ruleset to place up alongside Dragon Rampant & Song of Blades series. This will further allow the multi-use of figures who are based singly to clash.

At the same time, I've been following "Brummies Wargaming blog" for some time & often noted his posts on a ruleset called 7TV. With the recent arrival of the Lurkers Kickstarter & my support of both the Apocolypse & Pulp systems from Crooked Dice, I figured it was time to complete the set. Thus I also purchased the 7TV core rules.

Northstar also recently released the new multi-part Western figures for Dead Man Hand & made by Great Escape Games.

Nick also alluded to some sales on the Bargain Bin page at his store where he had several rail car types from Forground on sale. They were also quickly slid into the order to fill out my western themed train set. Being as they are already black this should be a quick win to build them!

So as I say, it was a good Friday!

Stargrave - Dante's Revenge, Sergei

Today's hobby session saw me complete the next member of the Dante's Revenge crew - Sergei

Another of Bob Naismith's figures, this guy has to be one of my favorite! Nice solid model in a dynamic pose & verbally assaulting those around him.

Who else loves how Snakebite Leather looks on a miniature?

Onto the next members of the crew.

Stargrave Crew - Dante's Revenge

Now that I've got my resin printer running (to use up resin which has past its expiry date). I've been printing a lot of the figures from various Patreons I follow.

So I've chosen my first crew to be one of Bob Naismith's figure sets from his Patreon.

This is the Crew of Dante's Revenge.

Used with permission by Bob Naismith

Now of note is that Bob didn't generate this crew for Stargrave in particular, so it's lacking a couple of members. As well I will be swapping out the cat for another figure. I've chatted with Bob about starting to make 10 man crews & pointed him to the Stargrave Crew generation pdf as a guide to what a crew can be comprised of.

With that being said, here are the first 3 figures I've completed. Dmitri, Rosenina (the Captain) & D8V6

Apart from the Captain, I haven't chosen the soldier classes of Dmitri & D8V6. However I expect due to Dmitir's weapon he will be one of the heavier classes of soldier.

Once I get the figures all painted, I will create my crew roster with stat's. So I will be working on the remainder of this crew during the week & then likely back to my BEF list figures.

BEF - Platoon HQ & a Group shot

Today I finished up with the Platoon Sgt & Boys-AT Rifle team. In fact the glue isn't even dried on the bases yet 😀

First we have the Platoon Sgt. This is a metal miniature from 1st Corps, which counting the original chevrons was merely a Corporal, but he got a field promotion & an additional painted chevron.

Next is the Boys-AT Rifle team. Again these are from 1st Corps which has a fairly extensive range of figures for the BEF.

Here is an image of the Platoon HQ. Of note, is the Boys-AT Rifle needs 2 members from a section to deploy it as it comes without crew.

Next we have the Infantry Platoon

And finally a photo of the completed BEF force thus far.

So what's next? Well I will begin working my way down the support lists. I've already selected out a Medic & Adjutant figure. Thanks for visiting.

Something Lurking this way comes

Today saw the arrival of a somewhat heavy box on my step. Peeling back the covers, it was soon revealed...

Lurkers from the Deep had arrived. Surely I just heard the echoing sound of crashing waves as I removed the vintage VHS case.

YES! It has arrived. Mostly consisting of Sarissa mdf building kits, I went in for the Producer level of this Kickstarter. This box was a hefty 11kg.

As an opportunity arose to add some other things, I also snagged the Ghost Village Bundle which though Western themed, can easily fit in with a small mid century coastal town.

Thus another project has arrived for me to find some time to spend on it, which to that I can merely say...

The Horror....

BEF - 3rd Squad Bren Team

With this post, it completes the core squads of my BEF platoon. Again, these are Warlord Games metals from their BEF Squad box.

Some may note that these are the exact same 3 figures as I did for the 2nd squad. You would be correct, as it makes it easy to grab the correct figures when laying them out. Though to be fair, the 3rd man doesn't have anything to show he is carrying ammo for the Bren, so any figure would work.

So with these done, I just have the Platoon Sgt & the Boys-AT Rifle to complete the platoon. I will be starting on them today & hope to have them done for the weekend. Thanks for visiting.

BEF - 3rd Squad Riflemen (Group 2)

Yesterday saw the completion of the 2nd group of Riflemen for the 3rd Squad.

As with the others to this point, these are all Warlord Games metal miniatures.

So something I discovered after lining these fella's up in their tray is I have an odd man out, so in fact I will have a spare guy to this point to use for another unit.

I also got well into the Bren Teams painting & expect to have them completed by Wednesday. After that its just the platoon Sgt & Boys-AT Rifle team to complete the core platoon.

BEF - 3rd Squad Riflemen (group 1)

Here we have 3 of the Riflemen for the 3rd squad that I've completed during my lunch hour paint sessions.

As with the others, these are all from the Warlord Games BEF squad sets.

The next 3 riflemen are on the table as well as the Bren team to complete the platoon squad troops. I've picked out the platoon Sgt figure as well as the Boy's AT Rifle team figures. which will complete the base platoon.

BEF - 3rd Squad Mustering

Yesterday's paint session saw the completion of the first 3 members of the 3rd squad for my Chain of Command BEF platoon.

Here we have the squad leader & 2 Riflemen.

Yes there are repeat figures, as the BEF era British lines are somewhat limited from Warlord Games. But they do provide the heads separate so I can at least change them up (though not a fan of them)

The remainder of the squad are in various stages of completion & I expect to get through them this week during my Covid Lunch paint sessions.

Stargrave - All your bases belong on us!

While I've been focussed on the BEF project (& still am), I have also gotten my resin 3d printer pumping out figures for Stargrave. This of course means getting bases for all of these too.

Those I game with locally know that I tend to base all my figures on washers, either directly or attached to another base. This is so when I store them, they don't slide all over the place. I use magnetic sheets in my drawers & carrying boxes to help mitigate some damage, short of tipping the box onto its side or upside down.

There are 2 different washers I tend to use. A generic one, which may vary in dimensions or the 'fender' washers which are flatter & tend to have smaller holes in its centre. Fender washers tend to be a bit more expensive, but I feel are worth it.

I have purchased several molds to use on putty or green stuff to create the base environment. These are from Happy Seppuku & Green Stuff World. Once the green stuff has been applied to the washer, its a simple matter of pressing/rolling the design desired.

A lesson since learned is that its best to create & paint the bases prior to mounting the figures.

There are also some ready made bases of course, GW having some for both Necromunda & 40K which will work.

For miniatures that are already affixed to a base (usually boardgame type plastic figures) I just paint up the base & apply some old decal bits to enhance its look. Of course I could remove the miniature, apply textures & then glue them back on, but that seems a bit excessive when I can still get a good base. In this example is a Core Space figure.

Once the base is ready, its time to get it painted up. These are the current colours/paints I am using for my basing. After the initial black gesso primer, its onto the base of Charcoal Grey. Then its onto the sponging on of the Metallic Gunmetal, then Tin Bitz.

Last is the dabbling of some rust blotches. At this point you can further embellish the base with everyones favorite black/yellow warning stipes & some decals if desired.

So for my first crew, I've selected the Crew of Dante's Revenge which have been 3d printed from Bob Naismith. But you will need to wait on those for a little longer!
