In Too Deep at EWG

On Tuesday night, we had 3 guys out to play In Too Deep. The concept of the game is that your members of a secret organization tapping into the cyber implants of Syndicate Criminals. The goal is to take down the syndicate (which requires players to sort of work together). Meanwhile the players themselves are scoring their own points by completing story quests & side quests which gains them evidence as well as corruption.

The city is deployed randomly, the Criminals are randomly selected from a group, thus allowing for multiple replays.

The Story missions & side quests are in effect, the criminals going about their nefarious tasks while monitored & 'nudged' by the player operatives.

As the players gain further control of the criminals, they can gain access to using their special abilities, or even get more actions

The first couple of turns, as with most games, were a bit of a struggle, but we were soon moving through our turns fairly quickly. Thanks to those who came out to play!

EWG at RPG-a-thon

This weekend saw our club run 4 games at the second weekend of RPG-a-thon .

On Saturday morning, Dave ran a game of Rangers of Shadows Deep. We managed to get 2 scenarios finished in the time alotted.

We actually had a dedicated table within the main hall where all the vendors had their products for sale.

It should also be mentioned that there were quite a few vendors outside & kudo's to them for braving all the rain that fell Saturday. Authentic Dungeons also had a booth selling lots of LARP gear.

I ran my Pirates game in the afternoon. I had 2 players plus myself.

I decided to run a scenario where a Caravel carrying a treasure chest was making for its drop at the island tower. The Pirates, hearing of the were attempting to intercept the ship to take the treasure for themselves.

The island tower, which had 3 musketeers who also operated a bombard.

As the first cannon's fire, the shot is long. The rowboat at the rear is holding the crewmen who are below decks as well as the treasure, they needed somewhere to store them.

The ships are soon close enough for the Marines to begin their musketry.

As my Caravel was getting close to the island, a weather change caused a massive increase in wind adding 12" to movement, this caused my ship to run aground & due to the speed, both masts were shattered. Its a good thing I was so close to the island!

As another ship suffered the same fate, with a shattered mast, the last pirate ship was sinking, so the remainder of the crew attempted to swim to the caravel to battle over the treasure, the floundering crew drew the attention of Chomper who began moving towards the players. (You can see the 3 crew that managed to pass their swim test at the edge of the Caravel)

The game was pretty much over by this point, so we called it.

Sunday had Richard run Pulp Alley Cthulhu. We ended up with a full table of 5 gangs searching for the Golden Goblet.

As luck would have it, the Goblet was found at the first plot point. There were lots of Deep Ones arriving, causing all sorts of Horror on those who were engaged by them. We kept the rules used to a basic level as we had so many new players.

For the afternoon, I again pulled out the Pirates game. We had 4 players (including me)

The scenario was the same as I ran at Mayday, there was a ship wrecked  amongst some rocks with treasure waiting to be grabbed by a deserving Pirate Captain. I added more rocks around the wreck to prevent any of the ships from being able to fit, thus players would need to use their rowboat to get to the wreck.

There was some long range cannon fire, but again they fell short.

The ships get close & begin dropping their rowboats. I kept my sloop to the outside, biding my time.

As the first rowboat touches the island with the wreck, Skeleton Pirates arise from the sand, to defend their treasure. There were also some Zombie Pirates as well.

By the time the game ended, the island was cleared of the Skeletal Crew, a lone Captain remained on the island with a chest he could not move by himself. As revenge, he shot all the crew within another rowboat attempting to get away with the second chest...so it drifted away crewless.

Most of the ships were down to barely enough crew to handle the ship, so cannon fire was greatly diminished. I think we had gotten through 12 turns & decided to call the game, as noone was getting a chest. Based on kills, yound David won the game.

I spoke with the organizer afterwards & he had recieved feedback that the games were enjoyed & I expect we will be getting invited back next year to host more games....so start planning for this next year club members!

Pirates - Splash Markers

Just getting some last minute things ready for this weekend. I had a few splash markers from the original Flagship Games box set, as well as a couple I had gotten from Will in a sale, but not enough for 6 ships.

I repainted the ones I had to make them all the same

Then I recalled an article or post where they mentioned using Golf Tees on washers to make more.

They are a bit taller, but their base width is correct (this is also the swath the cannon ball makes when it hits & bounces across the deck). I will likely go back after the weekend & paint them blue all the way up as they look a little unfinished at this point.

These will look great on the blue tarp 'water' sheet. I will certainly have photos from the games to share next week! Thanks for visiting.

More Foamcore Buildings

Today saw the completion of 2 more of the commission buildings I've been making for a local store.

Both buildings were based on the same template. a 2 story building with usable interiors.

As with all the builds I've done, I always add something new or try a different technique.

This time around it was adding stairs between the floors & built in such a way that a typical base could be inserted between the stair slats.

The upper floor needed to match where the stairs led too, & I used some bits of wood to set the building upper floor once aligned. The can be seen on the image below.

For the 2nd of the buildings I went with stonework lower floor walls & a different wall colour.

And the side view of the building.

These will be off to their new home once I make arrangements for the transfer. This leaves me with 1 remaining building to do for this consignment, but what to make?

Up next are the splash markers I've completed for my Pirates game I am running next weekend. Stay tuned!

Pirate Skeletons & Zombies

Getting some last minute pieces painted up for running my Pirates game at RPG-a-thon  this year after being approached by the organizer. It's been a good year for us at the Edmonton Wargames Group, as this is the second event we were asked to host games at this year.

I was even able to get the organizer to play in the game at Mayday, so he knows what the players are in for!

But enough blather, onto the miniatures!

I got these figures from my friend Will, when he sold me a pile of Pirates figures he had before heading off on some worldly adventures. Not sure where the stringy stuff came from, maybe a spider who got involved while the matte spray was drying. Will need to get rid of that!

I have quite a few others that have pistols, but wanted just ones with melee weapons for this game. As they've been lying in wait for those seeking the treasure, their weapons have gotten quite rusty & corroded with time.

I also got a few Pirate Zombies, so figured I would get some of them painted up also.

Looking at their faces, they could also be used as Deep One Hybrids!

Nothing fancy in getting these painted up, as time is short. Thanks for visiting.
