Black Powder at EWG

Last night Richard ran a game of Black Powder in 15mm. There were 4 of us playing.

Bruce & George ran the British Forces who were heading towards the Mahdist held hill.

Chen & I played the Mahdist forces. We decided I would handle the ones at the objective (as well as what was hidden behind the hill). Chen would handle all the reinforcements.

Some of Chen's Mahdist forces arrive on the flank of the British Advance.

In reaction George started trying to place his British troops in a Brigade Square.

Meanwhile on the other side of the table, Bruce finally got his British moving & encountered Mahdist troops.

It's likely a good thing I was holding the objective, as I flubbed a lot of my command rolls. The Mahdist spearmen armed troops were getting defeated on the one side & allowing the British troops there to begin moving forward again. But time had past & the game was going to end soon. Perhaps the Mahdists had delayed the British long enough...

The British Lancers finally got a great roll & dashed forward into the waiting Mahdist Rifles. The Rifles were forced to withdraw, losing the fight, which then allowed the Lancers to continue to charge into the Gatling gun.

The Gatling gun got off 2 successful firing rounds before running out of ammo. It had succeeded however in disordering the Lancers.

The battle ended with the Lancers being wiped out by Arab Cavalry & Mahdist Cavalry hitting them on the flank & rear. The British did not take the objective, however they had pretty much wiped out the Mahdist reinforcement troops, so figure it was a draw. The next morning would likely have found the remaining Mahdist forces had withdrawn to fight another day.

Thanks for running the game Richard.
