BEF - Juinor Leader & Rifleman

I spent a couple hours today working on more of the BEF troops. Today I managed to complete the 1st Squad Junior Leader & a Rifleman (Junior Leader is on the right wearing the leather vest)

Again these are metal figures from Warlord Games. I believe I am happy with the choices of colours for the palette & can now forge ahead with the remainder of the squad.

I am also in the process of gluing together a Matilda 1 to paint up once this first squad is completed.

  1. great pair of figures and wonderful detailing that you've picked out. I had one of those leather jerkins and you've got the colour spot on from what I recall mine looking like.

    1. Thanks Joe, I look at that jerkin & remember also seeing them in the movie 1917. Must be a holdover from WW1. Some guys just like their kit!

    1. Thanks Simon, this is also where I think it would be good to be one of those folks who can whip through units & have them all looking grand. I am not one of those.

  3. Of course he's some kind of leader, he's pointing and yelling! :)

They are a good looking pair. Your colour choices look spot on and should work well on the tabletop.

A Matilda 1? Those poor tin cans were slow and underpowered in the gun department. Expect Jerry to pop it every game.

    1. Thanks Dai! Yes while the Matilda 1 is certainly under gunned, having just an MMG (it was designed as an infantry tank after all) its armour is quite high for the period & it will be pain for the germans to take down, though with those exposed tracks, it could quickly become disabled. The Matilda 2 was a beast at this period, however again, its 2pdr gun only have solid shot made for a rough go of trying to brew up German tanks.

  4. They look super, Terry. It is good to see you working on an historical subject, I'll enjoy following this project.

    1. Thanks Jonathan, I will need to source some standing Bren Teams to fill out the sections. Having prone guys in units that are moving kinda bugs me. I see Empress miniatures have some with the gas mask bags (needed for BEF to make them historically correct)
